Yes, Your Contract Can Be Pretty AND Legal

Yes, Your Contract Can Be Pretty AND Legal

Remember that scene in Legally Blonde when Elle Woods hands over her pink, scented resume to Professor Callahan?

“I think it gives it a little something extra, don’t you think?” she says.

You can’t smell something sent through email (not yet, at least), but just like Elle proved, attractive legal documents can still do their job and leave a great impression!

Pretty contracts are just as legally binding as the boring ones

There’s a big advantage to “prettifying” your contract. Instead of fading away into the drab, 12-point-Arial-double-space-formatted contract crowd, yourgorgeous contract will actually catch someone’s eye…and make them pay attention to what you’re saying.

And hey, as long as your contract has all the important deets in it — like these three essential things — why not go the extra mile to make your contract look good?

Legalese is sooooo 1992

Legalese is the formal, technical specialized language of the legal profession. Snore.

It’s also difficult to read, hard to understand, and scary to sign. Who knows if you’re agreeing to reasonable service terms or are actually signing away the rights to your firstborn child or your next puppy?!

The truth is, your contract doesn’t need to be written in legalese to be legit.

A contract is still effective even if it lacks the Latin phrases, hereins, heretos, and wherefores of other incomprehensible documents stuffed with legalese. And having a contract in place is the best way to protect you and your business from misunderstandings with clients, liabilities, late payments, or worse, no payments you might otherwise be on the hook for.

So check out these gorgeous examples we’ve mocked up, and see how you might add a little je ne sais quoi to your contracts! Use tools like HoneyBook* to customize your contracts, or you can even design them in tools like Google Docs, Canva, Adobe, etc.
