What You Should Know About VIP Day Services

creating a vip day service

How many hours a day do you spend on calls with your clients? Or chasing clients around to get approval for your work, or waiting on instructions to start on a new project? Running your own business as a service provider is pretty awesome, but let’s face it — all the “little” tasks that are a part of your job can be a huge energy suck.

To get around these hassles and work more efficiently with clients, lots of service providers we know are starting to offer day rate services, aka, VIP Days. A VIP Day rate service lets you and your clients focus on achieving one goal together, with as few distractions as possible.

That sounds pretty sweet, right? If you think VIP Days are somethingyoumight want to start offering for your business, read on.

What are VIP Days?

A VIP Day is one day where you help one of your clients one-on-one with a specific project or to meet a specific goal. Also called day rate services, you’re offeringone  dedicated dayto spend with a single client, so that they get your full attention and focus for that time.

Here’s an example of how a VIP Day might work. A book coach and her client meet (virtually or in person) on a designated day to plan and outline the client’s first book. The coach has an entire strategy for the day laid out: start and end times, break times, the ultimate goal to accomplish, things like that.

You see VIP Days offered a lot by  coaches (which is why we used one in the example above), but so many other service providers and business owners can offer them, too — and are starting to. We’ve seen VIP Day services offered by  graphic designers, copywriters, web designers, and more.

Who are VIP Days for?

Like we said, VIP Days work across many different professions. Your VIP Days will probably attract clients who like the structured agenda and 1:1 attention. Clients who don’t have time for shorter, regular meetings (like on weekly calls) or who prefer to collaborate in real time may be willing to pay more for a VIP Day.

Clients who  may notlike VIP Days are those who:

  • Need lots of time on their end to make decisions or work
  • Live in different time zones
  • Are limited by their budgets
  • Prefer to work independently

Not sure if your clients would even want a VIP Day service? Ask! Send a survey or email and ask your clients what kind of VIP Day service they’d pay for.

How will your VIP Day work?

Structuring your VIP Day will take a lot of thought and planning. Your goal is to make working with your client more efficient, right? You have to set up your VIP Day system to make it worth your clients’ while.

The length of your VIP Day will depend on your preferences. Can you work with one client for 8 hours straight, or would half-days of 4 hours be better? Do you need time before meeting with the client to prepare yourself? What about time after meeting with your client?

Here’s an example of how you might structure a full VIP Day to get you thinking:

  • 9:30-10 a.m.: Prepare or brainstorm before meeting with your client
  • 10 a.m.: VIP Day begins by outlining the agenda/schedule with client
  • 10:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.: Work
  • 1:30 p.m: Break for lunch
  • 2:00 p.m.: Check in with client
  • 2:30-5:30 p.m.: Work
  • 5:30 p.m.: Final check in with client to discuss goal or deliverable

Of course, this is all flexible based on how you like to work, and how your clients like to work, too. You or your clients might find a full day too exhausting and less productive than you thought. Or you may need to play around with the schedule to see what works best.

How much should you charge?

Here’s the greatest benefit of offering VIP Day rate services for you: boosting your bottom line. You charge one set fee for a single day…and that’s it. No figuring out hours worked or negotiating retainer fees.

How much should you charge? Remember that your clients are buying your time and complete attention for one day (or half day). No other clients or client work. Your pricing should reflect that commitment, as well as the quality of your work and your services.

You’ve gotta find that sweet spot when pricing your day rate services. Charge too low, and you may not make enough (and may start to dread doing your VIP Days). Charge too high, and you may scare off potential VIP Day clients.

Don’t forget this one thing before starting VIP Day rate services!

VIP Days can bring in an influx of cash, and you can meet some of your clients’ needs more efficiently. The downside is, they can be a little exhausting, and the structure of your day can take time to get used to. But if they’re right for you, then congrats! You can start figuring out your new offer sos you can market them to your clients.
